Odoo11: Create module inside addons not showing and left sidebar odoo not showing on my custom app

Question

I have two question.

I've tried to create a new addon inside main addon (path: odoo10.0/server/addons) but it didnt show anything on the app so I createad a custom_addons folder but outside the main directory of odoo (C:UsersOdooERPcustom_addons) and it worked fine but the problem is the left sidebar menu didn't show.

first question is why i cant create module inside main addons directory? because since i dont know how to import modules from main addons to my custom_addons or does anyone know?

second question is why the sidebar didnt show? if some anything else, can someone tell me where to read the perfect documention of odoo since I'm beginner and so far there's no good documention I could possibly understand.
