c - Function definition not allowed here

Question

I have the following code:

#include <stdio.h>
int main()
{
    void echoNumber()
    {
        int num;
        printf("Enter a number:");
        scanf("%d", &num);
        printf("You entered %d", num);
    }
    echoNumber();
    return 0;
}

but when I attempt to compile it it returns error: function definition is not allowed here , I am not sure what I am doing wrong?

Function definitions go outside of main() in C
