compilation - Wondering if you can recompile a modified game so the multiplayer server-side detection sees the original compile

So, I'm just thinking theoretically here. But would it be possible for a game like Call of Duty, to have installed a cheat or modification and then you would recompile it so that you can play it on multiplayer. All these mods are fine to use on client side modes like single player or zombies, but if you played on multiplayer, there is a high chance you will get caught and banned.

So. I'm wondering if there is a way to maybe recompile the program so the server-side sees an original exe being run, but on your side its the modded exe...

Any advice, tips?
