raspberry pi3 - Visual Studio Code (1.52.1) Integrated Terminal - outputs random characters

I'm new to VScode and I'm having a problem with unreadable output from a simple.c program with one statement --> printf("Hello World");

The output from the integrated terminal is:

>xecutinga isk:C /+/++C a++ ltndv suinfc <ndc <
tarrangb ulnd....
flnd. fngnhec. hlcchhflddy.

However if i copy & paste the output into a text editor; it's READABLE:

Executing task: C/C++: g++ build active file <
Starting build...
Build finished successfully.
Terminal will be reused by tasks, press any key to close it.

I was wondering if there is a value in settings.json or launch.json that would cause this. I have reinstalled VScode twice.

SYSTEM SPECS:

  • Raspberry (buster -10)

  • VS Code Version: 1.52.1

  • Commit: ea3859d4ba2f3e577a159bc91e3074c5d85c0523

  • Node.js: 12.14.1

  • V8: 8.3.110.13-electron.0
