permissions - PHP file in XAMPP can't create new files

Question

I have a test script to create new .txt files, it works perfect in my LARAVEL VALET SERVER, but not in XAMPP.

This is the script:

<?php

$new_file = fopen("file.txt", "a") or die ("Error");
$content = "Hey";
fwrite($new_file, $content);

?>

I think I already gave xampp all the necessary permissions even from its terminal (root@debian) with:

chmod -R 777 /opt/lampp/htdocs/

I also did it manually to all its folders and files:

Do you know what it could be? Im working in MAC Os.
