node.js - Best way to pipe nodemon output to an external file?

I looked around in the docs and came across this:

nodemon({
  script: index.js,
  stdout: false // important: this tells nodemon not to output to console
}).on('readable', function() { // the `readable` event indicates that data is ready to pick up
  this.stdout.pipe(fs.createWriteStream('output.txt'));
  this.stderr.pipe(fs.createWriteStream('err.txt'));
});

I created another file in which I added the above snippet and I'm running that now instead of index.js. However, I'm not sure if this is the best approach. I'd appreciate if someone could let me know. Thanks
