registry - How to set the default version of Chrome opened from run?

I have a windows 10 machine. I have installed multiple versions of Google Chrome on my machine.

  • Stable Version
  • Dev Version
  • Canary Version

When I run the command chrome from run it opens Google Canary by default. Google Canary was the last installed version.

Here is what I did to find the place where this behavior is stored.

  • I checked if chrome was added to path and found that it is not.
  • Found two registry keys
    • [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionApp Pathschrome.exe]
    • [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionApp Pathschrome.exe]

Both the registry keys had path to Canary version. I changed it to stable version and it started to open the stable version when I pass chrome command from run.

However, after sometime, the behavior changes and I have to edit the registry key again to launch the stable version.
