Replacing XML data using Python script

I wanted to know if it is possible to write code that replaces text in an XML file based on user input.

Below is an example of the XML data I have

 <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<SimBase.Document Type="CheckpointLibrary" version="1,0">
<Checklist.CheckpointLibrary>

<Checkpoint Id="Unicom">
     <CheckpointDesc SubjectTT="TT:Unicom Frequency" ExpectationTT="TT:122.80" />
</Checkpoint>

I would like to be able to change the "ExpectationTT="TT: Offline"/>" to replace "Offline" with a variable based on user input

The document contains an a lot of these lines and so it would need to be identified by the "Checkpoint ID" If anyone knows how to do this I would be grateful.
