The mongoengine is pretty old and does not seem to implement the sessions module required by Django > 1.7. You can solve this issue by letting sqlite3 default engine handling the session part of you DB:

#SESSION_ENGINE = 'mongoengine.django.sessions' # optional

DATABASES = {
    'default': {
        'ENGINE': 'django.db.backends.sqlite3',
        'NAME': os.path.join(PROJECT_DIR, 'db.sqlite3'),
    }
}

Remove/comment the SESSION_ENGINE override
