HTML

<li><a onclick="setSelectedTestPlan(this);" href="javascript:void(0);">New Test</a></li>

js

function setSelectedTestPlan(el) {
       jQuery("#tree ul li").removeClass("selected");
       jQuery(el).closest('li').addClass("selected");
    }

or

js

function setSelectedTestPlan(el) {
   jQuery(el).closest('li').addClass("selected").siblings().removeClass("selected");
}
